When is the best time to refill?

  • You should refill your cartridge as soon as it is empty. If you can fill it before this happens, even better.
  • Do not let ink dry inside the cartridge. This will plug the printhead with dried ink and spoil print quality, a difficult to fix mistake.
  • Do not print with an empty cartridge. This will overheat the electrical circuits and damage the printhead, an un-reparable mistake.

How do I know when the cartridge is empty?

  • When printing, the text/images suddenly go blank or turn white.
  • With some cartridges you can see inside to check for an empty cartridge or you may gently press the printhead to a damp cloth. This will show you if any ink is coming out of the cartridge.
  • You can also “Print Test Page” on your printer’s software settings. This will show you which color is empty.

Which color do I refill?

  1. Open the “printers” folder in your “control panel” folder.
  2. Click (Windows: right button) on the printer you are using.
  3. When the “properties” page opens, choose “Print Test Page.”

This will print a page from your printer, it will show three main colors:
red(magenta), blue(cyan), and yellow. Refill these respective colors.
* It is recommended to refill all colors.

How do I know when the cartridge is full?

Great question! Every cartridge is different so this is difficult to answer. The best thing to do is read the instructions for your cartridge model and it will tell you when to stop filling. Here are some suggestions that may also help:

  • If ink begins to come out of the printhead, stop filling.
  • If ink begins to come out of the refill hole, stop filling.
  • As you squeeze the inkbottle, if ink does not go into the cartridge, or as you release the inkbottle, air does not come out of the cartridge and go into the inkbottle, stop filling.
